چکیده
The 2018 Critical Care Medicine Guidelines for Analgesia and Sedation in the ICU Good Practice Statement emphasized importance treatment of pain taking precedence over sedation. Within these guidelines, a multimodal analgesia approach is standard care ICU, which often includes initiation opioids. 1 As practice has shifted to prioritize management sedation, opioids have been administered frequent prolonged dosages, making critically ill patient susceptible iatrogenic opioid withdrawal syndrome (IOWS). This article provides an overview IOWS alert clinicians diagnosis patients.

Atypical presentation of opioid withdrawal, an effect of adulteration
Results Among patients 43.396% had seizure, 26.086% developed confusion after seizure and 17.391% experienced psychotic symptoms. Longer duration and larger quantity of substance abuse leads to higher complications. Seizure episodes occurred between 11 to 92 hrs of last intake with a median of 30 hrs. The seizure frequency had strong correlation with daily doses (b-0.697) and frequency (r-0.527...

To the Editor: We thank Kim et al. for their recent work examining the effect of intraoperative remifentanil on postoperative analgesia in children.1 Certainly, the pharmacokinetic profile of this potent opioid is attractive in modern anesthetic practice, and a thorough understanding of the principles behind tolerance, hyperalgesia, and withdrawal of remifentanil are critical for its safe admin...
متن کاملOpioid-associated iatrogenic withdrawal in critically ill adult patients: a multicenter prospective observational study
BACKGROUND Opioids and benzodiazepines are frequently used in the intensive care unit (ICU). Regular use and prolonged exposure to opioids in ICU patients followed by abrupt tapering or cessation may lead to iatrogenic withdrawal syndrome (IWS). IWS is well described in pediatrics, but no prospective study has evaluated this syndrome in adult ICU patients. The objective of this study was to det...
متن کاملValidity and generalizability of the Withdrawal Assessment Tool-1 (WAT-1) for monitoring iatrogenic withdrawal syndrome in pediatric patients.
Critically ill pediatric patients frequently receive prolonged analgesia and sedation to provide pain relief and facilitate intensive care therapies. Iatrogenic withdrawal syndrome occurs when these drugs are stopped abruptly or weaned too rapidly. We investigated the validity and generalizability of the Withdrawal Assessment Tool-1 (WAT-1) in children during weaning of analgesics and sedatives...
